Selfreliance FCU Whippany NJ Branch Office welcomes carolers
From December 6th, the feast day of St. Nicholas according to the Julian calendar, through January 19th, the Epiphany according to the Gregorian calendar, Ukrainians throughout the world celebrate the season of the Christ child’s birth. It begins with miraculous gifts delivered to good children, and ends with the blessing of the waters of the river Jordan, commemorating the baptism of Christ.
Caroling is a long-standing Ukrainian tradition. Following Christmas Eve dinner, children would walk through the village, singing and celebrating the holiday. Groups would put on Christmas plays, called Vertep (a manger scene), in the city square. Passers-by would reward the performers.
Selfreliance Federal Credit Union welcomes many groups of carolers (koliadnyky) and performers of nativity plays (vertep) in its offices during the Christmas season. From preschool children to church choirs, they fill our offices with song and best wishes for a happy new year, and in return they receive a donation from the credit union for their organization.

Від святого Миколая Чудотворця, щоб приносить дарунки дітям 6 грудня за юльянським календарем, до Водохрещя 19 січня за григоріянським календарем, що відзначає хрещення маленького Ісусика, український нарід святкує Різдво Христове.
Колядники, особливо діти, традиційно ходили з хати до хати після Святої Вечері, а старша молодь ставила Вертепи у центрі міста, щоб вихваляти новонародженого Ісуса Христа.
Українська Федеральна Кредитова Спілка “Самопоміч” вітає у своїх приміщеннях представників рідних громадських груп, від найменших передшкільників до церковних хорів, які приходять з колядою чи вертепом. Ми з ними святкуємо, радіємо їхніми віншаннями з новоріччям, а Кредитівка винагороджує їх даром любови для їхньої організації.
