Viillage Fest at Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Church in Chicago IL
Selfreliance FCU participated in the annual Village Fest at Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Church in Chicago. This lively festival takes over the 2200 block of Superior Street every year, the weekend after Labor Day. Tents full of various goods, food and other attractions line Superior Street alongside the church. Performers on the concert stage entertain festivalgoers. The festivities end with a performance by the Hromovytsia Dance Ensemble.
Chicago’s Ukrainian Village is considered to be one of the city’s most picturesque and livable communities. Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Parish was founded in the 1960s, as a center for maintaining the traditions and cultural heritage of our beleaguered homeland. Since the fall of the Soviet Union, the parish has grown significantly.
The Home Office of Selfreliance Federal Credit Union is less than a block away from Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Church. When the new Selfreliance FCU building opened for business, Sunday hours of operation at the teller counter were added, to extend the same courtesy to parishioners of churches in Ukrainian Village as is enjoyed by Ukrainians who attend some of Chicagoland’s outlying parishes, such as St. Joseph Ukrainian Catholic Church or St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
Weather for the Village Fest cooperated, which helped to make the Festival a resounding success. The Selfreliance Foundation provides ongoing financial assistance for St. Joseph UGCC.

Ukrainian Village. тобто Українське Село, це популярна околиця міста Чікаґо. Тут знаходиться головне бюро Української Федеральної Кредитової Спілки “Самопоміч”, як також чотири українські церкви (дві з них катедральні), катедральна школа св. Миколая, осередки молодіжних організацій, культурні установи, крамниці та централі різних інших українських товариств.
Коли “Самопоміч” у 2002 році перейшла у нове приміщення, Кредитівка поширила години урядування: касовий відділ тепер відкритий щодня. Це велика вигода для наших членів, кому найзручніше у неділю полагоджувати свої касові транзакції, коли вони приїжджають до українських церков розташованих в Українському Селі.
Одна з найбільших церков околиці – Український Католицький Собор св. Володимира і Ольги. Щороку у вересні парафія організує дводенний фестиваль, т.зв. “Ukrainian Village Fest”. Вулиця Супіріор біля Церкви заповнена палатками з різним товаром на продаж, а на сцені переплітаються виступи танцювальних гуртків з музичними ансамблями та солістами. Остання точка програми, вже під вечір, це виступ Танцювального Ансамблю “Громовиця”. На кінець, Кредитівка “Самопоміч” винагороджує лотерейний приз щасливому присутньому.
